Congratulations to our wonderful kids from orchestra and band who are playing in the pit for The Music Man!  Mr. Soto has done a wonderful job and they are perfect.  Even the Marching Band shows up!  If you didn’t get a chance to go and see the show, you are in luck because there are tickets available for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  Show starts at 7, doors open at 6:30.  Hope to see you there!

Our Poker Fundraiser is back on!  It is a No Limit Hold Em with re-buys and the date is Saturday May 26th 3PM.  Tom Rule, one or our Music Parents, generously donated a portion of this night to TMAC!  I am going to have the flyer uploaded to the website, but if you are interested please contact Tom at acescracked@cox.net to register.

We will be hosting an information night for incoming freshman and their parents on May 17 at 7pm in the Little Theater.  Spread the word!  You are welcome to attend as well.

We will be having our next TMAC Booster meeting on May 14.  Board at 6, parents at 7.  We will be discussing our end of the year banquet (June 10 at the Heritage Grill) and nominating next year’s Officers, among other exciting things.  Please plan on attending.  If you have any agenda items please let me know.

Last week the Concert Orchestra and Concert Band both earned a rating of Excellence at the annual District music festival. The Wind Ensemble earned the distinguished honor of a Superior rating and that Chamber Orchestra took home the highest award at that same music Festival with a Unanimous Superior!

The Winter Drum Line placed fourth at the Capo Valley drum competition!

Our very own Triton Marching Alliance participated in the Swallows Day Parade competition this Saturday. The Colorguard took home first place, our drum major, James Caestecker (cas-stecker) won 1st place and the band also took home 1st place!

    Just some notes on general business concerning the music department:

    • Friday Coffee is ON!  Let’s meet at the Talega Starbucks at 1pm on Friday 2/10.  Look for us outside unless it’s raining!
    • Fliers are now available for our Annual Poker Tournament.  We will be playing at school on Saturday March 24 at 4 pm.  Thanks to Tom Rule for putting this event together.  Please see the flyer for details, Tom can answer any questions.

    This Friday we will not have a coffee meeting due to finals.

    Look for See’s Candy Spring Fundraiser information coming home soon.  This is a fundraiser for our orchestra students who will be going on a trip this May to San Francisco!  For our new parents, we try to alternate each year with band and orchestra for trips.  Orchestra students will earn money from their candy sales for their individual accounts.  Other students can designate an orchestra student or just earn money for the general TMAC fund.

    Did you know that TMAC stands for TRITON MUSIC ARTS CLUB?  Our boosters (that’s me and you!) encompass all instrumental music at SCHS.

    Poker tournament tentative date is March 24 at 4 pm!  More info soon!

    Have you obtained your Target REDcard yet? It is an easy way to help our instrumental music program, when you use your REDcard for purchases, 1% is donated by Target to us!

    Volunteers Needed:

    • Sees Candy Sale (Spring)

When you use your Redcard for purchases at Target, you get 5% off your total. In addition, TMAC gets 1% from Target! There is a lot of potential there, and I am super excited. This is a way to contribute dollars without spending more, and I really encourage you to do it! I went to Target and when I checked out, I asked to get a Redcard. The whole thing took about an extra 5 minutes, and I got 5% off right then too! If you would like to help us promote this fundraiser, please let me know!

     

    Other upcoming fundraisers are a Poker Tournament (March), a Battle of the Bands (early May), and a Spring See’s candy sale. Of course we will need help, so if you would like to be on one of those committees, please let me know!

     

    Did you get to see the Drum Off? Wow, that was fun! I am proud of our drummers, they did a terrific job. I think we will have pictures coming soon. The Chamber Orchestra did a great job playing at Disneyland, congratulations to them for earning that prestigious honor.

     

    Orchestra will be taking a trip, details coming soon!

     

    Coming Up:

    • Honor Symphonic Orchestra – Forms have been sent out through school loop and auditions are February 6, with the concert on March 10. This is a wonderful event where the whole school district’s top musicians perform together. Please help your son or daughter get the forms in to audition!
    • Area Concert at SCHS March 15
    • Jazz Fest May 5
    • End of the Year Banquet June 12

    LOTS OF INFO but I will make it easy.

    Our football team has been playing very well and will be going to the Southern Section Championships at Angels Stadium this Sat.

    I was just informed that we must provide a half-time show. We will be putting together a small but entertaining show for the halftime. Any parents that wish to go to the game must purchase a ticket. The band and I are the only members that get in free of charge.

    Call Time for Sat game is 4:45pm!!! This is a change due to getting into Angels Stadium!

    The Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade is still on.

    Call time for parade is 8am so we check in on time.
    The band steps off at 10:20am and we should be finished by 11am.

    Practices for Thursday and and Friday are 3pm-4pm for parade. Fieldshow rehearsal is TBA as of now. We are looking into getting field time to work out our show.

    Winter Guard and Winter Drum Line audition times are subject to change.

    Winter Extravaganza Tickets are available for sale in Mr. Soto’s office anytime. We are recommending advanced tickets for either concert date.
